Site Suitability and Community Integration The chosen site, previously an industrial-zoned area, presents an excellent opportunity to repurpose the building into a public infrastructure accessible to the citizens of Alicante and visitors. The proposal incorporates retail spaces on-site, supporting local businesses and fostering community engagement.
Connection to the Ocean and City The design focuses on providing direct views of the ocean from multiple vantage points within the building and throughout the site, enhancing the connection between the city of Alicante and its maritime environment. The second floor houses the main program, allowing a majority of the site to be dedicated to direct access and uninterrupted views from the city to the ocean. A riverwalk surrounding the site offers a pleasant interactive experience, enabling people to enjoy the port and immerse themselves in Eye of Alicante. The riverwalk is replicated on the first and second floors, featuring spacious walkways that connect the program areas with magnificent ocean views.

Design Concept and Form The design concept draws inspiration from the ocean, with structural ribs extending from the roof to the ground, resembling a wave crashing onto the shore. This element connects The Eye of Alicante with the newly constructed Digital District, establishing a cohesive architectural theme. The building's organic and fluid shape evokes the image of a wave crashing onto the shore, further reinforcing the maritime concept, and harmonizing with the site. The separation of the office program from the Congress Center program provides an opportunity for a direct connection to the city of Alicante. The deliberate separation follows Avenue del Dr. Gadea, linking the city center and Plaza de los Luceros to the plaza at the building split.

Sustainable Contributions The design incorporates vertical wind turbines along the port side of the riverwalk, harnessing the ocean's capacity for maximum utilization. The open ground area accessible to the public allows wind to move from all directions, optimizing the efficiency of the wind turbines. The curvature in the design form enhances aerodynamics, maximizing the wind's potential to generate sustainable energy.
Proposed Solution Technical Justification The design of Eye of Alicante meets the technical requirements of a modern congress center, providing functional spaces, direct ocean views, and well-connected areas. The integration of advanced architectural concepts and technical elements enhances the overall experience for visitors and event attendees.
Economic Justification The proposed solution repurposes an existing building and fosters economic growth by including on-site retail spaces, attracting local and international visitors. The sustainable features contribute to long-term cost savings, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
